Global security leaders send strong message on need for climate strategy

Washington, D.C., 14 November 2016

Global military and security experts came together to sign a statement warning of the security implications of climate change impacts and the need for international strategic cooperation. GMACCC members were signatories to the statement that highlights risks such as social upheaval, large-scale disasters, conflict and food security.

The Huffington Post reported that “The statement comes as The Center for Climate and Security is delivering its comprehensive climate change “briefing book” to (US President-elect) Donald Trump” who has dismissed climate change as a hoax.

"The group’s recommendations include assigning a cabinet-level official to lead on domestic climate change and security issues, establishing senior climate security leadership within the offices of the national security advisor and secretary of defense, and prioritizing climate change".
